May was a busy month all around. We had overseas visitors, lots of school stuff, and bookish delights such as Bout of Books and Armchair BEA to contend with. But I also managed to get a fair bit of reading done. Let’s take a look.
- An Untamed State by Roxane Gay
- Bellweather Rhapsody by Kate Racculia
- The Transcriptionist by Amy Rowland
- Remember Me Like This by Bret Anthony Johnston
- Landing Gear by Kate Pullinger
- Smoke River by Krista Foss
- Summer House with Swimming Pool by Herman Koch
- The Tastemakers by David Sax
It’s difficult to pick a favorite out of the lot, but I would go with An Untamed State if you are brave, The Transcriptionist if you are looking for something literary and Remember Me Like This is you want a little drama.
In addition to those highlighted above, I reviewed:
Right now I’m reading Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown and loving it.
That looks like a great month’s reading! I’ve been so slack this month, it puts me to shame… ๐
I really want to read An Untamed State, I know it’s going to be a tough read but it seems so powerful too.
It really is an incredible book, but tough. By page 100 i was going to give up, but I’m really glad i kept with it.
Summer House With Swimming Pool showed up at my house over the weekend, so I’m really curious what you thought. I loved The Dinner, but I’ve been hearing mixed things from others who enjoyed it, too.
Shannon, I don’t want to say too much because my review will be up this week, but I liked it. Just not as much as The Dinner. He wrote Summerhouse before The Dinner, from what I understand, and I think that if i had read it first I would have liked it more.
Looks like a fantastic month! I’m keen to read The Transcriptionist and An Untamed State one of these days. We’ll see how long it takes me. #procrastinator
I’m building up my courage to tackle An Untamed State!
Deep shame on me. You fit more into a month than I get done in six! I’ve got Untamed State on my list to watch out for though having just read your review I think I might wimp out on that one now! Will be intrigued to see what you make of Half Blood Blues – I read it last year and really liked it – in fact almost loved it but not quite!
I think Half Blood is a rather divisive book. You either hate it or love it. Let’s just say I didn’t like it. As for An Untamed State, it was a tough read but so worth it. I loved how it dealt with PTSD. Very sensitive, but also horrifying.
That’s a great month ๐ I’m hoping to get my hands on An Untamed State one of these days. I have Summer House on my stack and since I really liked The Dinner I have high hopes for it. I hope you’re enjoying The Boys on the Boat! I loved it. (I love everything that DJB does)
Here’s to an excellent June!
Looks like a great reading month! I read An Untamed State off of your recommendation and was blown away. So powerful.
What a great variety!
What a great month! The Transcriptionist is on my list of books to read this summer.
