Who knew that making a Top Ten List could be so hard? I set certain limitations on myself for this list: no Advanced Readers Copies and at least some back list. I even included three titles from my 2014 TBR Pile Challenge, hosted by the Roof Beam Reader. And as always, Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the lovelies over at The Broke and the Bookish.
Looking at the list now, I am realizing how terribly UN-diverse it seems. Rest assured, I will be reading other things this summer. I mean, two months and only 10 books? I can do better than that!
Nice selection of books, looks like you are going to have a great winter
Just received a copy of “we were liars” yesterday- planning to kick off my summer reading with this title. Read “Crazy Rich Asians” last week and really enjoyed it- thanks for the recommendation.
Glad you like Crazy Rich Asians. Apparently a film deal is in the works, as well as a sequel. In spite of the fact that We Were Liars in YA, and i have a knee jerk reaction to YA, I’ve been hearing really good things from people I trust. Let me know what you think.
A lovely selection – I hope you enjoy Dear Nina 🙂
I can’t wait to get to it. It’s been on my radar for a while.
I enjoyed it so I hope you do too.
Great list! I’m keeping an eye out for The Vacationers (it sounds great!) and I heard good things about The Sparrow. Looking forward to reading your thoughts on Rachman’s latest novel 🙂
Happy reading! My TTT
It looks like a good mix to me. There are several on here I would like to read. I hope you enjoy them all!
But i’m really lacking in Canadian content. That will change with one quick trip to a bookstore once I land in Toronto.
Let us know what you get! 🙂
Glad you’ll be reading The Sparrow, it’s one of my favorites! And I feel like I’ve heard nothing but good things about The Death of Bees.
I’ve been trying to get to Death of Bees for a while now. I’ve read her other book and loved it. And from everything I’ve heard about The Sparrow I need to read it now!
Ooh, We Were Liars is on my list too! Seems like it’s gonna be a good one! Great list – I hope you enjoy all of your summer reads! 🙂
Amanda @ i solemnly swear
I think everyone should read We Were Liars. Sounds great.
The Sparrow is popping up on quite a few lists. I should have put it on mine! I want to read it for the Estella Society’s project 😀 I’ve heard so many good things and I can’t wait to get to it!
I know. A year ago i’d never even heard of the book and now everyone’s talking about it and it came out in the 1990s!
Wait, did you pick just 9? Or am I having a counting problem? Meanwhile I am at #15…
The picture looked better with 9, so… And the 10th was The Visionist, in case you were wondering.
I just finished The Rise and Fall of Great Powers a few weeks ago–I loved it! I hope you enjoy it.
I loved The Imperfectionists, but i’m worried I may be disappointed by this one.
Yay, White Teeth! It is one of my favorites of all time. I almost put the Vacationers on my list. Emma Straub hasn’t disappointed me yet. Great blog!
This will be my first time reading Straub. And I don’t know how I’ve made it this far in life without reading White Teeth.
Oh man, seems like We Were Liars is making the rounds this week on peoples TTT! I haven’t had a chance to pick it up but I’ve heard wonderful (and perplexing) things about it.
Cheers,
joey via. thoughts and afterthoughts
I loved The Death of Bees and We Were Liars and am working my way through The Rise and Fall of the Great Powers and Love, Nina at the moment — enjoying both as different as they are. I have a copy of For Today I am A Boy waiting in the wings and have wanted to read it since it came out earlier this year. Look forward to your take on it.
Wow we have similar tastes in reading! And there are so many great books out there it’s hard to narrow it down to just ten. But summer is my time and i like to see where the reading takes me instead of planning it out.
I just finished The Vacationers and really liked it. I was a bit disappointed by The Rise & Fall…maybe I need to reread it at a later date. The others I will have to add to my list, now…nice variety!
You are not the first person I’ve heard from who has been disappointed by the Rachman book. I am tempering my anticipation in hopes of not being too disappointed.
Some great books on your list! I loved For Today I Am a Boy and The Sparrow. The Lotus Eaters was pretty enjoyable, too!
I’m looking forward to all of them.
