When Golden Boy by Abigail Tarttelin (review) came out I was floored by it. It is simply brilliant. It is now available in paperback in most markets, so it seems like a good time to revisit some of its many covers.
I’m often perplexed when a book has so many different covers that are so varied in design. I wonder how that happens. For this book I suspect that it wasn’t doing as well as the publisher had expected, to they thought a design change would make people pick it up. What do you think? Would any of these covers make you pick up the book? And if you’ve read the book, which one do you think best reflects the story?
I’m partial to number 1 because of its subtlety and also, its normalcy.
I love number 1 too, but I think some of the others make more sense for the story.
I haven’t read this book, but cover 4 looks intriguing
It’s a great book. You really should read it if you get the chance.
I seem to be the opposite of most people. I like the two covers without anyone on them.
Those are my favorite too. Is it a Canadian thing?
I bet you’re right about how they put out a bunch of covers to drum up some interest in the book. I think it’s criminally underrated. It’s a GREAT book. I was knocked out when I read it and I can’t wait to see what she writes next ๐
I know. It was one of my favorite books of last year. She needs Oprah or someone big to get behind her. Her next book is listed on some website (Waterstones) as coming out in 2 more years. Can’t wait.
Three is my favorite. I just love the lighting ๐
