The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan

The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica MorganTo start off, I am an unabashed fan of Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan, aka the brains behind Go Fug Yourself. I am also intrigued by all things royal, a trait common among Canadians but not so much here in Scotland. So it should come as no surprise that I loved – LOVED – The Royal We.

Yes, it is predictable. We know they’re going to get together in the end. And yes, it is “loosely” based on Kate and Wills, and that irresistible scamp Harry, but I loved every minute of it. I loved the behind the scenes look at a royal at university and an inside look at his coterie of friends. How much of it is made up? Who cares! It was a delightful romp!

And for fans of Go Fug Yourself, there is much for you to recognize:

  • hideous views of the English country side
  • a girl with a penchant for navy blue striped shirts
  • requisite photos on pianos
  • but oddly, no comments about bracelets (needing them) or nude shoes, though wedges do come into play

Who would like this book? If you want a lighthearted romance about how the other half lives, this is it. It isn’t going to win any literary prizes, but who cares, it was fun. And sometimes that is all we need. It is a bit of a chunkster, but i still managed to read it in two days (and ignore my family entirely).

  1. My post of this is going up today too. Blog twins!

I loved it. It was such a fun read. When you realize who wrote it, it becomes so much more interesting. That really sealed the deal for me.

Not surprising that Royals fandom isn’t alive and well in Scotland but you know Canadians are into it.

  2. I hadn’t heard of this until I saw another review about 5 minutes ago. I’m a bit worried it is written by Americans and so might not get the Britishness quite right, but am interested in finding out. I don’t really want to do the one-upmanship, but I love the Royals and actually saw the Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, Charles and William for the first time at a ceremony last week. I also saw Diana when I was a child. Most of my friends think I’m quite weird for liking the royal family so much!
