Cover wars is back! At least for now while I’m feeling inspired. And what has inspired me you ask? The American release of Barracuda by Christos Tsiolkas (review). It is one of my favorite books of 2014 and it’s got a brilliant new cover for the American release (does that reveal my bias?).
So which cover does it for you?
I actually like the US cover for once! Shocking! This one is still in my pile (sadly), but I’m totally determined to get to it.
Read it now! I’m giving it my star of approval. It’s worth it. And yes, the US cover is awesome. Nicely understated.
Read it! You need more diversity. How many Australian books have you read this year? Also Christos Tsiolkas is brilliant
Exactly.
I’ve read All the Birds, Singing and Burial Rites, which is definitely not enough, so I do plan to read it.
That is impressive, well done
I like the UK cover because of the blue used. I feel like I’m at the pool! (The psychology of the cover design has therefore worked!)
I’d never seen the American cover before looking at this post.
Glad cover wars is back 🙂
I would like to vote for the Australian cover because Australian book but sadly I can’t. There is something perfect about the UK cover. The shadowy character standing on the edge of the pool; while he dive in and swim? It captures the book perfectly
On a completely unrelated note, I now have Heart’s “Barracuda” stuck in my head. (Insert guitar riff here.)
I know. It was stuck in my head for days on end when I was reading it. And now it is again. Thanks Katie!
Lurv that American cover. Really not a fan of the others.
I think the US cover is the only one that I might actually pick up and look at.
Me too. Other than the fact that I picked up the UK one, but that was because of Tsiolkas, not the cover.
Yeah, I think the US cover is definitely the best (in my opinion). I’ve actually seen the Canadian cover around and it has never piqued my interest. That US cover though…
Another vote for the US cover. As a Canadian who draws a lot of reading information/inspiration from UK sources I have been shocked by the gawdy fussiness of a number recent releases in their UK editions relative to what I see in Canada. The latest from Margaret Atwood, David Mitchell and Joshua Ferris come to mind.
In general, I don’t often like the UK covers, though I loved the MaddAddam cover. If it’s a book that even verges towards women’s fiction, the UK covers tend to make me nauseous.
I love that US cover!
Honestly, I don’t like any of these, but I think the UK one is the one I dislike the least 🙂
Ok, so the covers don’t work for you. Are you going to read it anyways?
I’ve gotta say I like the US cover the best! This is still on my TBR shelf, but I need to get to it soon!
You and Shannon should get together and get it read.
I’d have to go with the American cover for this book. Don’t think I’ve seen the Canadian version until now, haha xD
